Our Story

Hi, I'm Marty, the human behind The Space Guild.

It started the way a lot of these stories do: a kid who wanted to be an astronaut.

The astronaut part did not quite happen (although I have a wonderful rejection letter at the office), but the obsession never left. It carried me through a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at UMBC, into building my own engineering firm, and out to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, where I get to work on laser radars (LiDARs) and drones (with sensors) for a living.

Somewhere along the way I also picked up the bagpipes, learned to fly drones over the ocean for environmental surveys, and never stopped drawing and building scale models of ships, planes, and starships.

The Space Guild is where all of that lands. If you grew up on Star Wars and Star Trek, dog-eared your copy of Dune, queued up Foundation, or still hum the theme from Space: 1999, Thunderbirds, or Battlestar Galactica, you are exactly who I make this for (even if you rewatch Alien). Every piece comes from someone who genuinely loves this stuff, science and fiction alike.
